On April 26, School of Artificial Intelligence for Science, Peking University (AI4S-PKU) was inaugurated in Shenzhen. Liang Zhenying -- vice chairman of The National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (NCCPPCC), He Guangcai -- secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University, and Qin Weizhong -- mayor of Shenzhen Municipality, attended the inauguration ceremony.
The establishment of AI4S is a far-sighted action made by Peking University in the face of the scientific revolutions and industrial reforms engendered in the era of artificial intelligence. The school would employ “AI+Science” dual-tutor mechanism, to create an innovative ecology featuring the in-depth integration of artificial intelligence and basic sciences, and to develop multi-disciplinary talents which have science-oriented artificial intelligence competency, trans-discipline innovation capacity and international sight. The school would get rooted in Shenzhen, take the scientific and research advantages of Peking University, utilize the innovative industrial resources of Guangdong-Hong Kong -Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and deepen the key strategic cooperation, so as to better serve the nation’s strategic development, foster talents of multi-disciplinary and innovative capacity, and promote the region’s high-quality development.
At the Inauguration Ceremony, Zhang Jin -- a standing member of the Party Committee, executive vice president of Peking University and chairman of Shenzhen Graduate School of Peking University, issued Appointment Letter for Honorary President to Academician E Weinan. And, certain scholars and academicians were granted Letters of Appointment, henceforth being appointed as a committee member for the development and consultation. E Weinan and certain other scholars gave their academic speeches.
Besides the above-mentioned, did the representatives of the authorities of Shenzhen, Peking University, other educational and scientific institutions, and the famed enterprises related attend the Inauguration Ceremony.
